Plasma and brainstem suramin quantitation. (a) Suramin is a polysulphonated napthylurea with a molecular weight of 1297 g mol−1. (b) Suramin was present in the plasma and brainstem but was not detectable in the cerebrum or cerebellum. Two days after a single 20 mg kg−1 i.p. dose of suramin, drug levels were measured in plasma (7.64 μM±0.50), brainstem (5.15 pmol mg−1±0.49), cerebrum (<0.1 pmol mg−1) and cerebellum (<0.1 pmol mg−1) in both controls (Sal) and maternal immune activation (PIC) animals.
