Average ± SEM, n = the number of animals in each group. Insulin, leptin, cholesterol and triglycerides were measured from serum of fasting 3-mo-old male mice. Free-fatty acids were measured from the serum of 10-mo-old female mice after an overnight fast and then again after the same mice were refed. T3, T4, and corticosterone were measured on the same refed mice. Male mice were also used for fecal calorie content, urine metanephrines, and normetanephrines.
